About us / Background

The It’s your choice! project started back in 2000 as part of the UK Government’s preparations for the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002. Supported by Biffaward and Marks & Spencer, a two-year multi-stakeholder process to assess the UK’s progress towards sustainable production and consumption was undertaken by Imperial College London and UNED UK (the UK arm of the Stakeholder Forum for our Common Future). This culminated in the ‘It's your choice!' report published in July 2002 which details the key areas identified for future work.

The current direction of the It’s your choice! project was born out of the lack of a central source of information which could provide practical guidance and chart the progress the UK is making on sustainability issues.

More detailed information about the IYC project is available under the following categories:

Food | Domestic Goods | Transport | Water | Energy
